Sugarhill Gang wearing Jnglst Clothing
We joined the legends and innovators of Hip Hop – The Sugarhill gang, who have been wearing our Tees on their recent European Tour
Jnglst Clothing sponsored their recent tour, which covered Europe, from Germany to Ireland, we caught up with them on at the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival in Belfast to grab some great pictures of them performing.
They are surely a band it is OK to call Legends, even when the phrase gets thrown about a lot. But it has never been more apt than when talking about the Legends that are The Sugarhill Gang. They made history in 1979 with Rappers Delight which propelled them into superstardom selling 15 million copes and becoming the number 1 best selling 12″ single EVER.
We couldn’t be prouder to see some of our T-Shirts make their way onto such massive heroes of music. They wore some of our latest Jnglst Clothing Streetwear.
Sugarhill gang appeared on American mainstream TV shows before Hip Hop had even popped it’s head over the underground.
Some of Sugarhill Gangs tracks have been sampled by almost everyone, in one form or another, from Amen Break samples to Busta Rhymes and LL Cool J, their impact is relentless. Rocking our latest Old Skool Tee from our range of Streetwear
Apache was a surprise hit in the UK, cementing their reputation here. It was so big at the time it even popped up in the Fresh Price when Will Smith did a cover.
Amazingly Rappers Delight was added to the Library of National Recordings registry in 2012.
Party Masters
Nobody can get a party moving like an Old School Hip Hop act, most of all the Sugarhill Gang. Their live show was a mix of live instruments and beats in addition to vocal performances, combined with the kind of show man ship you’d expect from such an enormous act.
We couldn’t thank Sugarhill gang and their European tour manager Lothar enough for this opportunity. It was a great honour and we hope to continue to support them and their positive music. Sampled eternally in dance music, they have transgressed the usual barriers and pigeon holes of their original genre. As a result of their positive attitude and musical message they are fresh today as they were when they first emerged.
